Don't Fear The Change

Understanding why change can feel intimidating and how to adjust your mindset. The unknown can cause discomfort, but change is essential for personal growth, learning, and new opportunities.
  • The “What-ifs.” That fear of change often stems from worries about the unknown, potential failure, or losing your existing identity.
  • Growth Opportunity: Change drives adaptation, prompting you to develop new skills, embrace new perspectives, and uncover hidden strengths.
  • Regret Prevention: Fear can keep you in negative or stagnant situations, often causing more long-term regret than taking new risks.

PEMDAS vs. BODMAS

PEMDAS BODMAS

PEMDAS and BODMAS are precisely the rules for the order of operations in mathematics, with different regional names: PEMDAS is common in the U.S., while BODMAS is used in the UK and other countries.

In the United States, the order of operations (PEMDAS) is formally introduced in 5th grade under the Common Core standards, with an emphasis on parentheses and brackets. Students then fully expand and master it in 6th grade, including exponents and variables.

Forget-Them-Not

September 13, 2026

In the United States, National Grandparents Day is an official observance. It is celebrated on the first Sunday after Labor Day. President Jimmy Carter signed the official proclamation for the holiday in 1978. According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, the official flower is the forget-me-not.

On Grandparents Day, we honor grandparents, thank them for their unconditional love, and recognize the vital role, wisdom, and guidance they provide to younger generations. Grandparents Day is moderately celebrated in the United States.

If you are fortunate enough to have grandparents in your life, please acknowledge them and remember them.

Intuition AKA Gut Feeling

Intuition

A gut feeling, or gut instinct, is an instantaneous, intuitive impression about a person, situation, or decision that doesn’t rely on logic or facts. It is frequently accompanied by physical sensations in the stomach, like a knot, a sinking feeling, or butterflies.

Understanding the Science Behind the “Gut”
Although it may seem like a superstitious sixth sense, a gut feeling is grounded in biological and psychological processes.

  • The Second Brain: Your gastrointestinal tract contains the Enteric Nervous System (ENS), made up of millions of neurons that directly connect with your central nervous system (the brain) through the vagus nerve.
  • Subconscious Processing: Your brain continuously absorbs environmental cues, micro-expressions, and memories, quickly analyzing past experiences. It detects patterns and issues physical warnings or affirmations before your conscious, logical mind is aware.

Reciprocal Altruism or Mutual Help

You Scratch My Back I...

The idiom indicates that helping someone with a task often results in them reciprocating and aiding you in the future.
Examples from Daily Language
  • Casual Arrangements: “I will lend you my car on Friday if you allow me to borrow your camera over the weekend.”
  • Professional Contexts: Someone could say, “Help me write this software code, and I will design the logo for your new business.”
  • Negative Connotations: Occasionally, the phrase suggests an illegal, unethical, or secret arrangement—like a political deal or corporate favoritism—where principles are sacrificed for personal benefit.

Contracting Muscles

Key Physiological Benefits of Contracting Muscles
  • Metabolic Regulation: Myokines enhance insulin sensitivity, helping lower blood glucose levels and reduce the risk of Type 2 diabetes.
  • Inflammation Reduction:  Regular physical activity decreases circulating cytokines, directly mitigating chronic inflammation and autoimmune responses.
  • Bone Remodeling: The mechanical pull from contracting muscles stimulates osteoblast activity, thereby increasing bone density and reducing the risk of osteoporosis.
  • Neurological Health: Muscle contraction promotes the release of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which supports cognitive function and mood regulation.

Beware

Beware of Man

The phrase can be summarized into two main lessons:
  1. Beware of the man who does not speak

While outgoing individuals often openly display their feelings and intentions, a reserved person might be silently observing, calculating, or hiding their true motives. This silence isn’t necessarily malicious, but it does require greater caution because their next move is less predictable.

  1. Beware of the dog that does not bark

Guard dogs are designed to alert their owners to intruders; a dog that doesn’t bark isn’t fulfilling its purpose. More generally, this highlights how early warning signals, such as barking, are crucial in detecting hidden threats and preventing unexpected dangers.

I’ve never done it before. It’s an opportunity to learn something new.
It’s too complicated. I’ll tackle it from a different angle.
I don’t have the resources. Necessity is the mother of invention.
I’m too lazy to get this done. I couldn’t fit it into my schedule, but I can re-examine some priorities.
There’s no way it will work. I can try to make it work.
It’s too radical a change. Let’s take a chance.
No one bothers to communicate with me. I’ll see if I can open the channels of communication.
I’m not going to get any better at this. I’ll give it another try.
